I was an automotive technician for over 15 years. Although I really enjoyed that business, I found it very frustrating when I needed information on the new technologies. Mind you, this was before the Internet was available. When I first got into the computer business, I was able to find book after book covering almost any topic I wanted to learn about. As someone who is self taught, this was a real joy.

People ask me all the time if working on computers is much different than working on cars. I find the answer is mostly “no,” because diagnosing car problems and computer problems often takes the same mind set. Anyway, it wasn’t a huge transition for me. And now we have the Internet, which we use extensively to track down many of the weird issues you folks present us with.
